Lavender is an enviable flower with its purple hues as well as their perfume. In ancient times, lavender had a diverse range of purposes from medicinal to culinary which continues to this day. The flower is mostly associated with serenity and calmness. Although we’re familiar with lavender in soaps and essential oils, it turns out that there is much more that meets the eye (or nose). We met with George and Kimberly Reeves, owners of Field & Flock Lavender Farm, to talk to them about how their farm operates. Located in Woodstown, New Jersey, the farm currently has 3 fields and 1500 plants dedicated to lavender. The peak blooming period for lavender fields is mid-June to August.
Just how did George and Kimberly Reeves come up with the idea of transforming their working farm to lavender fields? Firstly, Salem County, NJ, is home to several vineyards in the area and more in the works. George and Kimberly explain that amidst their surrounding area, they found no one was growing or harvesting lavender. After two years of research, the Reeves opened their lavender farm to the public in 2022.
Field & Flock Lavender Farm has a distillery on site as well as a small shop of which they sell their handcrafted products sourced from their plants. Naturally, you will find creams and oils however you will also find cocoa, flour, sugar, coffee, and teas to name a few. Who would have thought?!
Throughout the summer months, Field & Flock, capitalizes on the season by hosting events right on the farm. They hold brunches and picnics with set dates as well as the option of reserving tables for a limited amount of hours at various rates. In addition, the farm also utilizes local vendors to provide charcuterie and cheese boards for select events. If you are thinking that their ventures end there, not so much. They are currently working with a nearby winery to assist in creating a lavender wine! There is a sense of re-discovery for lavender in the form of ice cream, cocktails, and much much more. The possibilities are endless.
Field & Flock Lavender Farm is one of our hot picks for The Spot this season. The farm not only provides locally produced products but experiences in a class by itself. Whether you want to enjoy the outdoors, set up a bridal shower, Sunday brunch, or a romantic date night at Field & Flock Lavender Farm, all you have to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy in your own private purple landscape.
